Fish Eaters: The Whys and Hows of Traditional Catholicism

even as where Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church'' Ignatius of Antioch, 1st c. A.D

Gilligan's Island
and the Seven Deadlies

In the picture above, the cast is aghast as Gilligan reads this page from the FishEaters website, revealing who the castaways really are: the show's creator, Sherwood Schwartz, said he consciously patterned each of the seven characters after one of the seven deadly sins. And here's who's who:

The Professor: Pride

Glad to show off his intellect,
the Professor -- whose name is Roy Hinckley,
by the way -- characterized Pride.

Mr. Thurston Howell: Greed

All the man thought about
was his material wealth

Ginger: Lust

What else could Ginger Grant represent
but the cardinal sin of lust?

The Skipper: Anger

How many times did the Skipper -- whose actual character name was Jonas Grumby --
smack Gilligan with his hat?

Gilligan: Gluttony

Always sneaking to get
Mary Ann's coconut cream pies...
(Gilligan's first name was Willy!)

Mary Ann: Envy

Remember the episode "The Second Ginger Grant," in which Mary Ann got hit on the head and thought she was Ginger?

Mary Ann Summers wanted what Ginger had.

Sloth: Mrs. Lovey Howell

Work? Mrs. Howell? Ha!
